OnSite Elevator Motor Field Service

When the machine cannot come to the shop, the shop comes to the machine. Nationwide field service for elevator motors, gearless machines, and MG sets, performed in your machine room.

Some elevator machines simply cannot be removed from the building. Gearless machines in older towers were often installed before the roof went on, and getting one out today would mean rigging, structural work, and weeks of downtime that no building wants to fund. This is precisely why EMR built a field service operation: to bring the shop’s capabilities, including testing, machining, and even armature rewinding, into the machine room itself.

Our field crews travel nationwide from our Trenton, New Jersey headquarters, and they carry the same test first discipline as our shop floor. Every field project starts with measurement and recorded data, so the work performed is the work the machine actually needs.

Onsite Capabilities, Nationwide

  • Sheave reprofiling on geared and gearless elevator machines. Worn sheave grooves destroy ropes and ride quality, and reprofiling in place restores the groove geometry without removing the machine. Start with our sheave survey worksheet to document your machine’s measurements for a quote.
  • Bearing surface and shaft repair, restoring worn journals and seats in place.
  • Bearing replacement on elevator machines and motors.
  • Major Maintenance Service performed onsite on DC elevator machines, bringing the full overhaul program, from commutator restoration to Class F spray epoxy reinsulation, into the machine room.
  • Rewinding of gearless armatures in place, the capability that most distinguishes our field operation. Very few shops in the country will rewind a gearless armature onsite.
  • Testing and analysis on AC and DC motors, using the same recorded diagnostic procedures as our MATH testing program.
  • Turning down and undercutting commutators on gearless machines and some MG sets, restoring the running surface without disassembly and shipment.
  • Motor and pump alignment, correcting the misalignment that shortens bearing and coupling life.

Why Onsite Work Takes a Different Kind of Shop

Field service is not shop service performed in a worse location. It is its own discipline. The technician working in a machine room has no overhead crane, no second chance at a measurement, and a building full of tenants above the work, all of it performed on equipment governed by the ASME A17.1 safety code for elevators and escalators. The crews we send into the field are the same people who rebuild these machines in our shop, which means they have seen the inside of every machine type they service and know what the measurements mean before the instruments confirm it.

That shop connection matters in a second way: backup. When field testing reveals a component beyond onsite repair, our repair and rewinding shop and our stocked inventory of rebuilt hoist motors and rebuilt MG sets stand behind every field crew. The job does not stall while someone finds a plan B. The plan B is already on our shelves.

For contractors managing 219HT machines, our field crews also perform the ARM program in coordination with your team, and our machine shop fabricates the custom components field projects sometimes require.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. EMR field crews travel nationwide from our Trenton, New Jersey shop. Onsite work is scoped from your machine details and location, and 24 hour emergency response is available at (609) 392 6149.

Yes. Onsite rewinding of gearless armatures is an EMR field specialty that very few shops in the country offer. It exists because many gearless machines physically cannot leave their machine rooms without major structural work, and rewinding in place restores the machine at a fraction of that disruption.

Reprofiling restores the groove geometry of a worn drive sheave in place. Worn grooves accelerate rope wear and degrade traction and ride quality. If your sheave shows uneven groove depth or rope damage is recurring, complete our sheave survey worksheet with the machine’s measurements and we will evaluate whether reprofiling will restore it.

Yes. The Major Maintenance Service, including commutator restoration, brush assembly service, carbon removal, and Class F spray epoxy reinsulation, is performed onsite on DC elevator machines. Work requiring shop equipment is coordinated through our Trenton facility.

The field crew is backed by our full repair shop and rebuilt inventory. If a component is beyond onsite repair, we can quote shop service immediately, and stocked rebuilt hoist motors, armatures, and MG sets can ship to shorten the outage.

Call (609) 392 6149 or send the machine type, symptoms, measurements if available, and the job site location through our contact page. For sheave work, the downloadable sheave survey worksheet captures the measurements we need to quote accurately.
